“Generally, I find Peruvians very friendly, laid-back and easy to get along with.”
In fact, I love Peruvians so much I married one. When travelling, whether on a two week holiday or a six month adventure, I believe getting to know the locals is the best thing you can do, not just in Peru but all over Latin America. Only through interacting with local people can you really experience a place and learn about its culture, past, present and future. But don’t worry, you don’t have to marry them like I did!
I have always enjoyed travelling, and travelling to Latin America in particular. So far I have been to Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay and Brazil. As for favourite places, aside from Peru, I find it very difficult to choose. I guess my highlights would be the Amazon, Patagonia, Galapagos and northern Brazil. As for why, I’d say it’s just down to a general feeling of ‘wow, this place is amazing’ usually due to a combination of the natural beauty, the people and the climate.
That’s why I enjoy working with Chimu Adventures so much, I want people to feel the wow factor of Latin America and Antarctica as much as I did, and continue to do when I visit new places. Even to this day, I still remember my first impression of Latin America. It was when I landed in Mexico City in 2000, my first thought was ‘this place is nuts’, but I loved it!
