I remember reading that the world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page (Saint Augustine) and how true that is.
After spending most of my life in Southern Africa, including an amazing five-year stint in Mozambique, I thought it time to see the world. I packed everything up and put my life into a backpack and headed off, and what a life changing decision that was. I travelled through Europe for two months, before meeting my wife at the start of a journey through Scandinavia and Russia.
After a brief period living in Switzerland, I moved to Australia, but after a few years got itchy feet again, and we packed everything up and headed to South and Central America. Wow, what an amazing place to spend four months backpacking. This part of the world is just mind blowing, with each country being so different to the last. There is just so much to see and do that even four months was not enough. From the end of the world in Ushuaia, to the ruins in Guatemala and Machu Picchu, to the wilds of the Amazon Rainforest and Galapagos, not to mention the biggest party in the world – Rio Carnivale. Too many highlights to list and of course, the food….
A few years ago, my ultimate bucket list item was ticked off, when I cruised to Antarctica. This is now my favourite place in the world (and I have been to a lot or places). This is one place that everyone should see at least once. You will not be disappointed.
