Enjoy a four day exploration of Quito, the capital city of Ecuador, on this Chimu Adventures Quito extension. During your visit you will take a tour of the city’s historical centre where you will enjoy its colonial architecture, churches and Incan heritage. To the city’s north you’ll stand on the Equator at the Equatorial Monument and to the south you will stare up at Cotopaxi, the highest active volcano in the world.
Note: this tour can easily be added before or after your Galapagos cruise.

You will arrive in the city of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. The city is situated 2,850 metres above sea level within the Andean foothills and is known for its snow-capped mountain backdrop, colonial architecture and artwork. Once part of the Incan Empire, Quito has been declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site thanks to its well-preserved historic centre. You’re free to explore on your arrival.
Today you will take a tour of Quito’s historical centre. Highlights will include visits to La Compania and San Francisco Churches. Afterwards you will travel north to the Equatorial Monument. The monument marks the exact middle of the world, latitude 0º and you can stand with one foot on each hemisphere. Nearby the monument you’ll be amazed at the surrounding volcanic scenery. You can also take the opportunity to visit the Ethnographic Museum or the Inti Nan Museum.
Today you will head south from Quito to visit Cotopaxi National Park. Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world. Despite the altitude, the park is home to numerous birds and varied plant life. Weather permitting, there are spectacular views from the north face of the mountain. The surrounding scenery includes volcanoes like Pasochoa, Ruminahui and Sincholagua. You will also have the opportunity to visit a local indigenous market.
You will be transferred to the airport to depart for your next destination.
